Imagine a dog—let’s call him Buddy—sitting proudly with an accordion player, belting out a tune in a way that’s equal parts hilarious and endearing. If you’ve never seen such a sight, take a moment to watch this video of a dog “singing” while an accordion plays in the background. It’s not exactly a chart-topping performance, but it’s a valiant effort. Now, here’s the thing: Buddy’s first role in life is to be a dog— chasing squirrels, wagging his tail, and being a loyal companion. Singing? That’s not in his natural playbook. Yet, with a little encouragement, some practice, and a willing accordion partner, Buddy gives it a go — and gets better over time. As a first-time leader, you might feel a bit like Buddy.
